Console Tournaments

Schedule

Tournament registration closes either once a tournament is full or after the first round has been completed in a tournament. All information will be subject to change, please contact gaming@animethon.org if you have any questions.

There will be a starting cash prize of $100 for Smash Bros WiiU Singles and Street Fighter V. A $5 entry fee will be required. Half of the entry fee money goes towards increasing the money prize, and the other half goes towards a donation to the Stollery Children’s Hospital through Extra Life Edmonton.

Rock Band 4 (Friday)

Sign up with at least one other friend to show off your Rock Band 4 skills in our qualifiers. Top 3 scoring groups return for The Battle of the Bands. Free to enter.

Qualifiers
  • Open Sign up
  • Minimum groups of 2
  • Can sign up as solo player and will be grouped up if another solo player available
  • Play a song and get a score
  • Score based on: level of difficulty selected, difficulty of song for instrument using, number of stars earned and performance
  • Top 3 scoring groups come back for Battle of the bands
Battle of the Bands
  • Top 3 bands from qualifiers return to play second song
  • Same scoring as qualifiers

Smash Bros for WiiU Singles (Saturday)

Competitive 1vs1 Smash Bros for WiiU. $5 Entry fee with $100 starting money prize split for 1st and 2nd place. Half of the entry fee money goes towards increasing the money prize, and the other half goes towards a donation to the Stollery Children’s Hospital through Extra Life Edmonton.
  • 32 Players max
  • Best of 3 games, 6 minute rounds, 2 stock
  • No custom moves
  • No items
  • No Amiibos, No Mii Fighter
  • No Omega stages
  • Starter Stages: Battlefield (Miiverse), Final Destination, Lylat Cruise, Smashville, Town & City
  • Counterpick Stages: Dream Land 64, Duck Hunt
  • First stage is decided by Rock Paper Scissors, best of 1. Winner strikes, then loser strikes twice, then winner. (1-2-2-1)
  • Following stages decided by winner banning one stage from all stages and then loser choosing
  • Winning player is not locked into the same character for the next match, but has to pick before loser selects character
  • You may not choose a stage you have already won on unless mutually agreed to
  • You may not play on a stage that is not on the available stages list.
  • Sudden Death wins will apply
  • Gamecube controllers, Wiimotes and Wiimote nunchucks provided
  • Use of gamepad not allowed
  • Allowed to bring own controller of choice (some restrictions may apply)

Smash Bros for WiiU Free for All (Saturday)

Smash Bros for WiiU the way Sakurai Intended. All bets are off, can you survive the chaos? Free to enter.
  • 64 Players max
  • Depending on number of sign ups first round may be 8 player
  • During the First round if the sign up is not full players are allowed to sign up again upon a loss
  • Quarter Finals to Finals will be 4 player
  • Default settings
  • Best of 1
  • Random stage
  • Larger stages removed for 4 player matches
  • Top 2 players per match move on
  • No custom moves
  • No Amiibos
  • No Mii Fighters
  • Sudden Death wins will apply

Mario Kart 8 (Saturday)

Put your kart racing skills to the test in our Mario Kart 8 tournament. Free to enter
  • 32 Players max
  • 4 Players at a time
  • Best of 3 random tracks
  • 150cc
  • Computer Players on
  • Top 2 players move on in first round
  • Top 1 move on in Semi Finals
  • Finals best of 4 tracks, 1 track selected by each finalist
  • Wiimotes and Wiimote nunchucks provided
  • Use of Gamepad not allowed
  • Allowed to bring own controller of choice (some restrictions may apply)

Street Fighter V (PS4) (Saturday)

Competitive Street Fighter V. $5 Entry fee with $100 starting money prize split for 1st and 2nd place. Half of the entry fee money goes towards increasing the money prize, and the other half goes towards a donation to the Stollery Children’s Hospital through Extra Life.

  • Default settings
  • Best out of 3 games
  • Winning player is not locked into the same character for the next match, but has to pick before loser selects character
  • No Legacy Controller mode
  • No Training Stage or Beach
  • PS4 controllers provided
  • Allowed to bring own controller of choice (some restrictions may apply)
  • Fight stick controllers are allowed

Pokken Tournament (Saturday)

Fight it out in this new way to experience pokemon battle in our Pokken Tournament. Free to enter.
  • 16 players Max
  • Default Settings
  • Depending on number of signups will be wither best out of 3 games or best of 1 game
  • If best of 3 winning player is not locked into the same character for the next game, but has to pick before loser selects character
  • 2 WiiU consoles linked together in lan mode with 1 player per console
  • Game pad controller provide for each player
  • Wiimotes and Wiimote nunchucks also provided
  • Allowed to bring own controller of choice (some restrictions may apply)
